Anti-Inflammatory Foods

It is becoming increasingly clear that a host of illnesses--including heart disease, many cancers and Alzheimer's disease--are influenced in large part by chronic inflammation.  This is a process in which the immune system becomes off balance and persists unnecessarily in its efforts to repair the body and repel pathogens.  The prolonged process results in damage to healthy tissue as well.  Poor diet is a main contributor. You can add foods to your diet that reduce inflammation and improve how you feel. Plus these foods will help decrease your risk for chronic diseases.

Over all, when choosing anti-inflammatory foods to help reduce inflammation and pain, choose fresh foods instead of heavily processed foods. Here are some tips:

  • Snack on whole fruits, nuts, seeds, and fresh vegetables throughout the day instead of cookies and candy.
  • Eat more fish and less fatty red meats
  • Stay away from deep fried food.  Instead bake or stir fry your meals.
  • Choose green, orange, and yellow vegetables for side dishes or salads.
  • Drink plenty of water, fresh 100% fruit and vegetable juices, and herbal teas.

Vibrational Medicine: What's It All About?

A Brief Look At Vibrational Medicine

According to Natural News, Vibrational medicine is a promising area of "technology" that covers a variety of pioneering healing modalities now known to be far more powerful than drugs and surgery in improving the lives of patients. One of the top ten modalities include:

Crystals, gems and rocks: the harnessing of vibrations from crystals and other rocks for healing purposes. All crystals vibrate. In fact, if you are reading this report, you're using crystal vibration right now! (The CPU clock in your computer operates on a timing signal generated by a crystal.)

The article goes on to say that: The challenge is to see their use become widespread and accepted by practitioners of western medicine. Unfortunately, most practitioners of modern (western) medicine are steeped in an outdated mindset of drugs and surgery and tend to shun any therapy that isn't sanctioned by the pharmaceutical industry. Let's take a closer look at the kind of paradigm shifts that will be required in modern medicine in order for vibrational medicine to earn increased credibility.

To use Vibrational Medicine, it is important to become familiar with each Chakra (or energy center) within your body. Learn to detect the blocked Chakras within your body and what gemstone vibrations are most effective to start energy flowing again and open up a blocked Chakra. Discover which colors are most beneficial for you to wear or which gemstones will be beneficial to carry to keep energy flowing well. Throughout the Stonewater Studio website I've offered insights into what results or effects you can expect from certain gemstones and have created designs for specific purposes. If you'd like to know more information specifically about the Chakras, please request my special overview of the Chakras, by emailing me peggy@stonewaterstudio.com   I'll be delighted to email you a copy.

What is Reiki?
ABOUT REIKI THERAPY
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results. Patients do best when they are open and receptive.  I am a Certified Reiki Therapist and am able to do distance healing as well as "hands on" healing. An Ancient Science for Eating Healthy
Ayuveda--A Science of Life

Considered one of the oldest healing sciences, Ayuveda dates back 5,000 years to India and is becoming more popular in the West.  In Western medicine, we treat diseases but there is little emphasis or education about prevention. The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent illness by maintaining balance in the body, mind, and consciousness through proper drinking, diet, and lifestyle.

According to Ayurvedic beliefs, each person has a distinct pattern of energy -- a specific combination of physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. It is also believed that there are three basic energy types called doshas, present in every person. Everyone has vata, pitta, and kapha, but usually 1 or 2 are dominant in a particular person. Many things can disturb the energy balance, such as stress, an unhealthy diet, the weather, and strained family relationships. The disturbance shows up as disease. Ayurvedic practitioners prescribe treatments to bring the doshas back into balance.

If you'd like to know your dosha, you can take the quiz. But even without knowing your dosha, there are a few basic concepts anyone can apply from Ayuvedics to their lives for improved well being.

BASIC CONCEPTS FOR EVERYONE
* Eat fresh, local produce, grown organically
* Eat in a settled environment and sit down to eat
* Only eat when you're hungry (some dosha types should NOT have breakfast)
* Stay away from icy cold drinks which decrease digestive fire
* Lunch is the most important meal of the day when your digestive fire is the highest
* Don't eat leftovers
* At each meal, eat an amount that would fit in both hands and not more.
* Stay still and silent after eating for improved digestion. Then take a walk.

Ways to Boost Your Immune System

A Few Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Staying healthy is a simple proposition. All you need to do is eliminate all the unhealthy elements in your life.  Too simplistic?  Okay it may seem oversimplified and that's the point. We tend to make our lives complicated when in fact it can be a more effortless flow. Life is what we think it is. Why do we choose to make it so complex, so full of struggle? It seems to be the only way we really learn. Yogi Amrit Desai calls life "a biofeedback machine" and life's "perpetual therapeutic irritations" lead us through the path of evolution. So the key is awareness and acceptance. There is neither good nor bad, there just is. So when we accept ourselves as we are and the world as it is, we feel more in tune with the flow of the universe and we are more at ease and in harmony.  Our minds and our bodies function better since we are more balanced.

Listening to the Dalai Lama speaking a few months ago, I was impressed by his assessment of humankind...that we are getting better and more compassionate. The tragedies that have occured from earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. have brought out a caring spirit that is serving all of us well. The Dalai Lama says: "It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them." So therein lies another key to boosting one's immune system. By serving others, you serve yourself. I encourage you to "pay it forward" and reach out to help someone even if it's just to give someone a smile or a gentle encouraging touch on a shoulder. Giving lifts the spirit...of both receiver and giver!  You'll feel better for it.

Gemstones can also help strengthen the immune system. Three extremely cleansing gemstones are Amethyst, Bloodstone (Heliotrope) and Tourmaline. Amethyst is an all healer and removes toxins from the body. It is useful in treating a number of disorders including those of the digestive system, heart, nervous system, skin and hearing. It helps improve sleep, meditation and provides relief from headaches and pain. Bloodstone's energy empowers specific microorganisms in your bloodstream that make your body an incompatible environment for infections. Bloodstone also facilitates the removal of toxins from your body and enhances your cells’ absorption of nutrients.  Tourmaline produces a detoxifying effect on the nervous system, as well as the organs and tissues of the body. It has been shown as a useful aid for improving circulation, reducing stress, improving brain alertness and activating the immune system.

Reducing and eliminating stress is a huge immune booster. I offer numerous opportunities to tap into stress-reducing techniques through my CD "Integrative Relaxation for Stress" or the Stress Buster System or Integrative Relaxation Classes or consider my de-stressing jewelry designs.  Try my complimentary 5-Minutes To A Quiet Mind as a quick start.  Feel good and be healthy!

Embracing Change

by Peggy Sealfon

"The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty." -Winston Churchill

Life is short. Within a time span of just a few dozen months, it seems that our lives have been inexorably altered. Fortunes have been lost, jobs have evaporated, the value of the dollar has plummeted, relationships have been stressed to the breaking point and the outlook has seemed dismal. Some people have been so overcome with fear as to be rendered dysfunctional in every aspect of their lives.

Change is inevitable and entering a state of paralysis is counterproductive and depleting. Our dramatically changing world is our wake up call. It is a clear opportunity for a new beginning. This changing passage in time has provided a unique chance to connect with what’s really important in our lives. So for a moment, take a giant step back and look at the bigger picture, shifting the way you look at your world and your life. If you wallow in thinking about how bad things are, you will continue to attract negative things. Thoughts are energy and what you think is what you can manifest. So focus on thinking about what you truly want in your life. Sometimes we are so caught up in what we believe we “should” be doing or what we “should” be achieving, we lose touch with our authentic selves and who we really are or what our real purpose is. We lose touch with our gifts, our talents because we’ve taken on the goals or missions imposed upon us by parents, spouses, children, friends. But who are we? What’s really important to us? Think about it. Here’s a chance to make new choices. Panic and uneasiness may be blinding you and you’ll miss seeing all the new possibilities that are unfolding every day. Just let go and open your eyes.

The past is the past; leave it there. It is not who you are or what you are capable of doing now. Be present in this moment in time. The past has guided you to this point in life’s journey but it does not define the present. Let go of rigid thinking that keeps you focused on the old ways of doing things. If you are unclear as to what you want right now, take some quiet time for yourself to allow the thoughts to bubble up from within. What do you love to do? Give yourself permission to really think deeply about it. Then, make some time to do it and don’t worry about what others might think. Find something you’re good at and something you enjoy and just do it. At the age of 65, singer/songwriter Bobby Goldsboro taught himself fine art oil painting and has produced an impressive collection of paintings in just four years. It’s a new career for him. It’s never too soon or too late to start. When you find the path that feels right, life becomes an effortless flow and amazing things begin to unfold. Have faith in yourself and trust in your own highest power.

In the scheme of the global village, be grateful for all that you have. Even if you are feeling that right now you have very little, there are many who have less. Be thankful for your friends, your family, your health. When you pause to be thankful, you attract a positive charge from the universe and amazing things begin to happen. Open your heart and your mind. Be aware and be flexible.

As we come together in this changing world, we realize that we are part of something much bigger than any one of us. By putting more positive thoughts out into the universe, we contribute to generating a better world. When you lose yourself in the cosmic dance without struggle, you find yourself moving effortlessly; almost magically. Life is like a river in which you merge. When you flow with the current in a smooth and fluid experience, life becomes harmonious, balanced, and joyful. So let go of fear. Be grateful for the changes. Take stock of your “real” self and take a quantum leap into the river of life.
